Case Description

One day morning one of my patient called me, ask me about Homoeopathic medicines, are they helpful in pediatric cases, I said definitely, he said his close relatives 16 month (male)baby was continuously crying since 4 day and night, without taking sleep, is it helpful in this case? Investigations of that baby are already done but didn’t help him, that baby was admitted in the well known pediatric hospital in my town, I request him, can u do me favour, shall I see the baby? He said doctor u has to visit in the hospital, but due to heavy rush of the patient I unable go to hospital, I call them in my consulting with prior permission of that Pediatric consultant.

When baby entered in my clinic that cry was very unbearable to me, continuous cry since four days, parents said that baby was unable to hold the neck, back, his thumbs were stiff cant able to hold the things, Kicking his legs constantly, even he was no received the breast feed properly in these days, babies eyes were so strain red due to not slept well, parents were also in exhausted, when I observed that child that child was on mothers shoulder, he want to carried constant day night, after giving allopathic medicines (Sedation ) he slept for only half an hour, after that he woke up, indicating to carry him, one thing I observed when mother gave force to him lie down in her lap for a while he became quite then again the same thing, I saw the investigation in that pediatric consultant diagnosed this case as LEIGH Disease (Sub acute Necrotizing Encephalomyelopathy)(SNEM)which was totally unknown to me, I didn’t understood the disease condition, but I was very confident about the observation which I observed in that child, I assured them that baby will quite with in 24 hrs,

I took the following rubrics

1) Quieted cannot be. 2) Carried desired to be carried shoulder over the. 3) Kicking sleep in. 4) Restlessness children in, carried out amel. Being. 5) Operation forceful lift. (Dr. Sehgal Contribution)

Above all rubric have only one remedy and that was Cina, I prescribed Cina 30 Stat/ SOS I gave visit to my town on every Saturday so I thought if he need higher potency then medicine could not available in that area so I gave another dose of Cina 1 M SOS (as per need after calling me) I was thinking about the case and the diagnosis, what could be the prognosis of this case , after discussing one of my allopathic consultant he explain that this is rare phenomenon found in pediatric age group in which necrosis has been started in brain spinal cord, this case has no cure in any science, as child grows, all organs became necrotized with he can’t hold the neck, back, can’t even stand, then vision would be lossed, hand movement also day by day slow can’t hold the things, then baby would die in few years. After this discussion I was shocked, already I assured the parents that baby will stop crying within 24 hrs. I was waiting for the expected phone call with palpitation in my heart, after 24 hrs I received phone from that parents, they say doctor after receiving that medicines child slept well for 4 hrs first time, his crying was less as comparative to previous day, he is taking feed regularly every 2-3 hrs, I said don’t give any doses only continue with Sac Lac, I was quite happy with this phone call I started reading Cina thoroughly, I got lot of rubrics which I observed in that child I cant ask any questions in that situation only observation which I perceived at that time I prescribed, next day again that parents called me that baby is started crying since morning same thing I suggest them to gave Cina 1M dissolved it into the 300 ml water give him sip by sip very hourly and report me in evening , I feel medicines was correct but the potency was low so increased the potency that’s why I gave 1 M 1 dose , since then 1st Oct to 26 Nov that baby was quite no crying / Shrieking improvement was very significant day by day he is improving firstly holding neck, then hold back but less , walking , holding things by his both hands, eye movements are Normal, Urine stools are Normal, speech improved which previously he can’t able to speek now he used word like Aaba, Baba, Anna, Dada. With this case and result s which I got I was fully satisfied, at least I help him in trouble / crises according to parents review baby has given good improvement day by day follow up regularly.

Recently he came to clinic his mother was very happy child also in playing mood, mother said his appetite was increased, his movement are normal day by day, he is holding neck completely without any support, back has increased strength, he is walking independently, he sitting nicely, his speech has been improved saying ANNA, BABA, APPA, AAI, MAMMI, etc. now he has no problem, he is improving only one dose of CINA -1 M since 5 month, I never repeated, only on SL.

Lets understand about Leigh’s Disease— Necrotizing encephalomyelopathy (SNEM) is a rare neurometabolic disorder that affects the central nervous system, it is named after Denis Archibald Leigh(1916-1998) a british psychiatrists who first described the condition.

Causes—it is an inherited disorder that usually affects infants between the age of 3 month to 2 years, but, in rare cases teenagers and adults as well. In the case of the disease, mutations in mitochondrial DNA (mt DNA)or in nuclear DNA (gene SURF 1 and some COX assembly factors) Cause degradation of motor skills and eventually death. Mitochondria are an essential organelle in eukaryotic cells, their functions convert the potential energy of glucose, amino acids and fatty acids in to adenosine triphosphate(ATP) Mitochondria carry their own DNA, called mitochondria DNA (mt DNA) the information stored in the mt DNA is used to produce several of the enzymes essential to the production of ATP.

My understanding of Mentality in Cina Children--- when they approached, baby can’t look in to the eyes of physician, there is some fear inside, when they suffer from any disease / sickness their cry / shriek is unbearable to anybody who is attendant, shriek is high pitched sound(Karrkash), that others says what happen to child, why he is crying so loudly, but that shriek is up to certain extent if u incite him, carry him, give some chocolate, give some force which he needs, then he become quite for a while, cina baby can consolable by parents / attendant, that’s why he is not in rubric inconsolable, the difference between chamomilla and cina according to the rubric Inconsolable- Cham is there no Cina, Anger Consoled when, Consolation Agg, irritability consolation agg. Weeping consolation agg all these four rubric chamomilla is covered but there is no cina. Cina baby doesn’t want caressing by others, he need force, chamomilla needs caressing.
